I have always loved taking pictures of my family and friends.  It has been so important to me to try to capture the wonderful expressions in the faces of those I care about.  So much of our lives would be forgotten if we did not have pictures.  I was about eight years old the very first time I took a picture.  It was a Brownie camera.  Even at a young age my pictures were, well, better composed than most.  Later on it seemed only natural to find a way to make photography a career.

During the learning process that began in retail catalogue production in 1981, I photographed household products, coordinated commercial advertising photo shoots, promoted the talent of photographers in Miami and New York, sold my own travel and scenic pictures through stock photo agencies and edited breaking news and documentary photo essays for the prestigious photojournalists of Black Star agency.

All of this experience further developed an awareness, style, technique and sensitivity to capturing special moments that weave together beautiful stories of people interacting with each other, their surroundings and the camera.  I am comfortable in any situation ... whether it is organizing a large group of people for a portrait or moving in closely at an important moment.  It is not enough to stand on the sidelines simply recording an event.  Clients have told me I disappear in a room filled with their guests and no one knows I am there.  This allows me to move about quietly and get a sense of the atmosphere and of everyone involved which then lets me capture the details unfolding without disruption ... one of the many secrets to good documentary photography.

I love everything about photography ... to touch people with pictures that mean so much to them that it can move them to tears.   There is something magical about a still image that reveals a subtle look or gesture known only to those who are familiar.    I look for the best of everything in everyone I meet and try to convey that in my pictures.
